FIRE PREVENTION EXPO
DATE: 1/16/2025
#Of Students: 26
Students in grades 6 through 8 were taught the dangers of forest fires and how they are becoming much more prevalent in our area. Students first learned the 3 parts of a fire and did an experiment where they eliminated oxygen. The second experiment was using borate and boric acid to create a fire suppressant, students tested it on felt by observing that the piece of felt did not light on fire. The last experiment explained how forest breaks work. Students made a model of a forest, and they put a strip of sand in between. They then lit one side of the “forest” on fire and noticed that it did not spread past the sand. Lastly, students observed how fast fires spread through a VR video. The students had a lot of fun and learned a lot about how they can prevent fires in their local area.
